2024 is the first year of the IRS's new filing service that is meant to help tax payers. The program is called direct file, and it allows the IRS to do your taxes for you. While this may seem like a timesaver, David Williams with the Taxpayers Protection Alliance does not think it is a good idea. "Direct file is a really bad idea," Williams said. "The IRS is preparing your taxes. When someone prepares your taxes, whether its the guy down the street, a private business, or yourself, you are looking for deductibles.
